The New Choral Singers, under the direction of Robert Calleja, will premiere a carol by British composer Valerie Thompson in their annual Christmas concert entitled Musical Tidings.

Ms Thompson had attended one of the choir's concerts while in Malta last July.

The 30-strong choir will deliver two performances, the first of which will be held at St Gregory the Great Parish Church in Sliema on December 12 and the second at The Annunciation Parish in Balzan on December 14. Both concerts will start at 7.15 p.m.

The rest of this year's repertoire will consist of a selection of Christmas carols ranging from the traditional to Negro-spiritual and from Medieval to the 20th century era including music by Viadana, Praetorius, Tchaikovsky and Holst among others.

The concerts are free of charge.
