o Afleet Alex, the winner of this year's Preakness and Belmont Stakes, has been retired, trainer Tom Ritchey and the horse's handlers confirmed. The colt had been sidelined with ankle injury since the June 11 win in Belmont and when another injury was discovered before the horse was shipped to Gulfstream Park in Florida this week, the decision was made to retire Alex. Afleet Alex retires with eight wins in 12 career starts and with earnings of $2,765,800 for the Cash Is King stable.
