Maltese followers of European football, in particular those who support Liverpool, will have the opportunity of seeing the Champions Cup in Malta, the Liverpool Supporters Club confirmed this week.
A delegation recently travelled to Liverpool to talk to chief executive Rick Parry about the matter.
"It has been in our plans since Liverpool won the cup last May," PRO Matthew Pace told The Times.
"Last week we put forward our proposal to Mr Parry and he was more than happy to agree. Our supporters' club has fostered excellent relations with Liverpool FC and this is the result of that association."
Club president Ronnie Camilleri and vice-president Charles Farrugia were also on this trip.
In 2001, this relationship had led to the visit of the three cups won by Liverpool that year - the League Cup, the FA Cup and the UEFA Cup - where fans were given the opportunity to see the trophies and take photos.
Pace confirmed that something similar is planned for the visit of the Champions Cup.
"It will be a fantastic opportunity for all those who love football, but priority will have to be given to club members first," he said.
Liverpool won the Champions League last May when they beat Milan in a dramatic final in which they had been 3-0 down at half-time before winning on penalties.
In August they also won the European Super Cup by beating CSKA Moscow 3-1, a trophy that will also be brought over to Malta.
