Alfred Fenech of the Abandoned Animals Association has another dog for homing but as the dog happens to be a strong Rottweiler, he has some important advice to give.

He recommends that given that such dogs are rather unpredictable, its new owner should preferably have had previous experience in handling and taking care of this particular breed.

There certainly should not be other dogs in the new home of Rex, the nine-month old dog. A house where there are no children is also advisable, Mr Fenech added.

Rex looks happy and very friendly but you never know!

Rottweilers are notorious for their temper and sudden attacks.

Mr Fenech came in possession of the Rottweiler after a woman from Zejtun found she could no longer cope with the huge dog because of her health. Space at her home was also limited.

Mr Fenech estimates there are about 200 Rottweilers on the island.
