Maltese delights for Prince Philip
Once a year the Duke of Edinburgh will be able to relish the taste of Maltese fruits steeped in spiced alcohol syrup, which will be specially delivered to Buckingham Palace by Magro Brothers Group of Companies.
The treat was offered to Prince Philip after he visited the company's plant in Xewkija last week when he accompanied Queen Elizabeth on her state visit to Malta. He was given a tour of the plant by the company's managing director John Magro.
To commemorate his visit Mr Magro pledged that every year Magro Brothers will deliver two jars of Terranean Delights to Prince Philip to refresh his memories of his time on the island.
Prince Philip, who met Mr Magro's family and the staff, was given information on the company's business portfolio.
Magro Brothers has been in the food export business since 1955 when they exported tomato paste in aluminium tubes to Britain. In more recent years, the company has specialised in tomato ketchup and sauces for the retail sector and food service.
Today, Magro Brothers (Foods) Limited exports to 20 countries in three continents. The British market is by far the company's largest overseas market with long-term agreements with both ASDA and Sainsbury's supermarkets.
In July, Sainsbury's tomato ketchup, produced by the local company, was voted top over other leading British tomato ketchups.
