The 2nd Annual Conference of E-Maps, an interdisciplinary European Masters in Creativity and Performance being designed by five universities, will be held tomorrow and Thursday in Malta, sponsored by the Middlesea Group.
E-Maps is a University of Malta-based Socrates project, launched by Richard Muscat from the Department of Physiology and Biochemistry and John Schranz, senior lecturer in the Theatre Studies Programme.
The University, in collaboration with the universities of Paris, Rome, Leicester and Poznan, is at an advanced stage of designing the Masters for availability in five European countries in 2007.
E-Maps is a European Masters Programme in Performer Studies with a totally unique and dynamic nature. It is not a Masters degree programme in history or theory of theatre or sport. It is not a practical study-programme aiming to teach students the fundamentals of acting and performing, or of any particular discipline of sport. It is, instead, an invitation to would-be researchers to start considering the highly complex training processes which contemporary performers undertake (be they active in theatre, dance or sports) as a focus for research in the fields of learning, memory and creativity.
Academics in the five proponent universities - Malta, Roma La Sapienza, Paris XIII, Leicester De Montfort, and Poznan Adam Mickiewicz - are converging their separate, ongoing research into a unique programme that will offer tuition in the following five disciplines: cognitive neuroscience, cognitive psychology, philosophy, sports sciences and performer studies.
Middlesea Group's sponsorship of the conference is in line with its commitment to support culture and education.
Middlesea Group is comprised of Middlesea Insurance plc, Middlesea Valletta Life Assurance Company Ltd, International Insurance Management Services Ltd and Progress Assicurazioni SpA which are licensed by their respective authorities.
