Real Madrid: Ronaldo has been left out of the Real Madrid squad to play Real Sociedad today after failing to make a full recovery from an ankle injury. Midfielder David Beckham is also doubtful for the game because of a recurrence of his back problems. Brazil striker Ronaldo aggravated ligament damage in his left ankle after rushing back in order to play in last week's clash against Barcelona which Real lost 3-0.

Attacked: Sunderland chairman Bob Murray is recovering after being attacked with a beer glass at a restaurant in Newcastle on Friday, said the Premier League club. "A beer glass was used in an attack," a spokesman for the club said yesterday. The Sunderland spokesman said Murray suffered facial injuries and his wife sustained an eye injury in the attack, adding that the club and Murray had been advised by police not to comment further on the incident.

Zenden: Liverpool have suffered a fresh injury blow after midfielder Bolo Zenden was ruled out of action for three to four weeks with a knee injury. Zenden sprained a ligament in his knee towards the end of the goalless Champions League draw against Real Betis at Anfield on Wednesday.

Crowd Trouble: Around 100 Djurgarden and Gothenburg fans were involved in a fight in Stockholm yesterday, the daily Aftonbladet reported. Police intervened at Medborgarplatsen, arresting one person after a clash they said had probably been planned. Swedish champions Djurgarden and IFK Gothenburg meet in the Nordic Royal League today.

Pienaar: Ajax player Steven Pienaar is a target for several Italian sides but they face competition from Europe's top clubs. "By the end of November we will decide what is to be done next year," confirmed his agent "Between England, Italy, Spain and Germany there are many clubs interested in Steven."
