The seminar series 'Work in Progress in the Social Studies' (WIPSS) celebrates its tenth anniversary with three special seminars in honour of the centenary of Max Weber's influential book, The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism. The special guest speaker for the occasion will be Ursula Apitzsch, Professor of Sociology at the J.W. Goethe University and the Institute for Social Research, Frankfurt.

On Thursday Professor Peter Mayo will give a paper entitled "Revisiting Weber's Protestant Ethic - A Critical Exposition". On December 7, Professor Apitzsch will speak on "Protestantism, Ethnicity, and the Spirit of Capitalism" and on December 14, Dr Paul Clough will explore his research: "The Muslim Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism".

All seminars are held between 6 and 8 p.m. in Room 124 at the Mediterranean Institute.
