Fr Karm Attard, a Salesian from Nadur who spent 72 years working among the missions in India, died in India on November 19 aged 94.

He had originally gone to Bombay in December 1933 at the age of 22 and his first missionary work was in a village near the Himalayan mountains.

He succeeded in setting up seven parishes with churches, a number of schools and orphanages in Marbisu, Mairang, Nongstoin, Sonapahar, Rangblang, Mawkyrwat and Nongkwar, with the assistance of Maltese and Gozitan benefactors.

In June 2002, he was granted the award Gieh in-Nadur.
