GRTU wants compensation

The Malta Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises, GRTU said it was extremely aggrieved at the "grossly unjust way" in which traders and entrepreneurs were treated by the authorities when it came to traffic arrangements in connection with the Commonwealth summit.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, the GRTU said the arrangements were made without consultation with the GRTU and often in complete disregard to the negative financial and commercial impact certain decisions were having on many businesses. The GRTU said it was requesting the government to seek a fair remedy. The government should vote funds to compensate for losses suffered through the imposition of bureaucratic decisions taken for the CHOGM.

On a different note, the GRTU congratulated all those who worked to make this event a success.

Referring to the Commonwealth Business Forum the GRTU said: "Our only regret is that too few Maltese businessmen realised the potential of this important encounter and how important it is for Maltese entrepreneurs, large and small, to seek opportunities beyond the limited confines of the Maltese internal market".
