Maldovian human rights activist Marnie Latheef was the protagonist at one of the Amnesty Nights being held at BJs nightclub in Paceville.

Ms Latheef told the audience that her sister, Jennifer Latheef, was one of thousands of people who peacefully took to the streets in Malé in September 2003 to protest against gross human rights violations in the country.

She is being detained in Maafushi Prison on an island 18 miles south of the capital.

Ms Latheef is reportedly not being given regular access to the medication which she needs to take daily to regulate her blood sugar.
