Go Mobile has given a helping hand to the Mdina Rehabilitation Project in its efforts to restore the Baroque chapel of St Roque in the main street of Mdina.

The chapel was built in the late 18th century to replace an earlier chapel that had been demolished and which was located at the entrance to the city.

St Roque church, which belongs to the Cathedral Chapter, will eventually be open to the public.

The project has started with the restoration of the façade and roof and will continue with the interior.

Albert Gouder, Go Mobile's marketing executive, presented the sponsorship cheque to Ray Bondin, executive coordinator of the MRP, which falls within the Ministry for Resources and Infrastructure, and Denis de Lucca, chairman of the Mdina Rehabilitation Committee.

The restoration project is under the guidance of architect Hermann Bonnici.

Dr Bondin praised go mobile's support, saying that the number of restoration projects that needed to be undertaken was beyond the available funding and depended very much on sponsorship by private firms.
