Contrary to Mr Carmel M. Mifsud's claim that the Public Registry has expeditiously mailed the required documents by post to my home address (The Sunday Times, October 30), I have, to date, received through registered mail my father's birth certificate, while my parents' marriage certificate is still lost somewhere in limbo.

The recent turn of events places in question his subsequent lame explanation that the documents were mistakenly delivered to Canada instead of the United States by the local postal authorities. Had it been so, I would not have received my father's birth certificate. It behoves Mr Mifsud to think up more logical explanations.

I feel I have been given a blatantly dishonest reply in a continuing sequence of questionable conduct, which reflects gross inefficiency and mediocrity at the Passport and Civil Registration Office. It must be remembered I started the 'simple' process of acquiring the two documents, required for the application of my Maltese passport, in person during my mid-June visit to Malta, and have yet to succeed.

The Website (www.certifikati. gov.mt) which Mr Mifsud recommends for quality of service and reliability, continues to be dysfunctional after a three-week period, at least for people at my distant end in California.
