Archpriest Emeritus Mgr Eucharist Sultana of Xaghra was appointed diocesan chaplain of the Holy Name Society by Bishop Nikol Cauchi on October 28. He has replaced Mgr Salv. Borg, who had occupied the post since February 22, 2000.

The new chaplain was born in Xaghra on July 7, 1939, and was ordained priest on April 25, 1965. On October 14, 1973, he was appointed archpriest of Xaghra and headed the parish up to November 15, 2004.

The Holy Name Society held two diocesan congresses in Xaghra while he was parish priest: on January 22, 1978, and on May 3, 1992. A third was held earlier, on September 19, 1954.

Mgr Sultana will lead his first congress as chaplain - and the society's 43rd - on April 30 next year. Joseph Refalo, the society's president, last week thanked Mgr Borg for his contribution and Mgr Sultana for accepting the appointment.
