The Union Haddiema Maghqudin is threatening industrial action if a pending issue with the Curia is not resolved.

The secretary of the union's health services section, John M. Briffa, said the Curia had still not submitted its counter proposals on the financial aspect of the collective agreement for employees of the Church's homes for the elderly.

Mr Briffa said the union had informed the Curia that as the latest aggregate accounts of the Church indicated a profit, the Church should give tangible recognition of these workers' input. He added that the employees in question were receiving a lower salary than they deserved for their work as carers.

A Curia spokesman was not in a position to comment on the issue yesterday.
