Tickets at Lm45 for the concert of Italian singer and musician Claudio Baglioni will go on sale from the Mediterranean Conference Centre, in Valletta today.

In three weeks' time, Mr Baglioni will give a solo performance, playing his greatest hits on piano and guitar to an audience of up to 1,400 people.

The December 10 concert will last at least 90 minutes, Nigel Camilleri, from NnG Promotions, the organisers of the concert, said during a press briefing yesterday.

Claudio Baglioni shot to fame in 1972 with his album Questo Piccolo Grande Amore. His song bearing the same title was later proclaimed the Italian song of the century.

Dr Camilleri expressed his conviction that the concert will be a success. Since it had been announced on Thursday that the singer was going to give a concert in Malta, the phones at the Mediterranean Conference Centre had not stopped ringing.

The singer has already been to Malta to perform for participants of a conference, Davide Cachia, managing director of Colours of Malta, said. Mr Cachia said that as an architect, Claudio Baglioni appreciated Malta and especially the Mediterranean Conference Centre, where he had performed. It was the singer himself who asked whether this concert could be held there.

Mr Cachia described Claudio Baglioni as Italy's best solo singer, one who was very well known in Malta.

Dr Camilleri said the lack of a bigger indoor venue which could be used in winter did not permit the organisers to bring over the singer's band too and they opted for a more intimate concert. However, once the singer will be playing solo, he would have more opportunity to play the crowd's favourite songs, he added.
