Former prison guard jailed

Jailing a former prison guard for two years after confessing to dealing in heroin in prison, Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera ruled that the fact that he cooperated with the police did not necessarily mean she ought to apply the minimum punishment prescribed by law.

The Times wrongly reported yesterday that after noting that Raymond Gerada had cooperated with the police from the outset, the magistrate decided she ought to apply the minimum jail term.

Any inconvenience is regretted.
