A Swieqi man was yesterday charged with breaking into a car, stealing two cheque books and defrauding several companies of over Lm1,000 between them.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti heard Richard Flattley, 54, plead not guilty to stealing the two cheque books from Marcel Bonello's car, damaging the car and defrauding several companies last month. He also pleaded not guilty to fraud, stealing car registration plates and relapsing.

Mr Flattley was granted bail against a deposit of Lm400.

Police Inspector Kevin Borg prosecuted.

Lawyer Franco Debono appeared for Mr Flattley.
