The Prime Minister, who led us into the European Union as a promoter of the European ideals, seems to have changed. On September 29, the European Parliament voted for a 20 per cent mandatory renewable energy target share by 2020.
But the Prime Minister, in his latest budget speech, insisted that fossil fuels like oil and gas should go on being used for the generation of electricity in Malta. Plans for solar and wind energy farms were dismissed as not viable.
Not viable? Besides 3,000 hours of sunshine a year and 200 days of suitable winds, what else do we need for these renewable energy farms to be viable?
How shall a 20 per cent renewable energy share be reached by 2020 when a country which is perfectly made for wind and solar energy keeps using fossil fuels as if there were no other options? Is our government blind or what?
