Masquerade Theatre Company will hold open auditions for its production of the family musical Seussical.

The new musical is written by Eric Idle (of Monty Python fame) and the Tony-Award winning team of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, who wrote the Broadway and West-End smash-hit musicals Ragtime and Once On This Island.

The musical combines many of children's author Dr Seuss's finest themes, weaving together some of his most famous stories and characters in unexpected ways.

The music mixes pop, gospel, blues and R&B, with a little bit of country and foot-tapping razz-a-ma-tazz thrown in for good measure.

Masquerade is looking for performers aged 15 upwards who can sing and dance. Those auditioning are requested to prepare a song and take sheet music in the desired key. There will be a piano accompaniment on the day.

The production calls for a big cast of males and females, and none of the parts have been pre-cast.

Seussical the musical will be staged at the end of April next year at the Manoel Theatre. Direction will be in the hands of Anthony Bezzina, while musical direction will be by Andy Reiss. Set design is by Peter Howitt and Ernest Camilleri will be responsible for costume design.

Auditions will be held on November 28 and 30 from 6 p.m. onwards at Ospizio Hall, Lorenzo Manché School, in Floriana.
