Movement of court staff is within the sole prerogative of the Director General, Courts Division, a spokesman from the office of Chief Justice Vincent De Gaetano said yesterday.

However, when such movement concerns members of the "judiciary team" of a particular judge or magistrate, the Chief Justice and the particular judge or magistrate concerned are consulted prior to the movement.

The spokesman wanted to correct a report in The Times yesterday on the postponement of a traffic sitting due to staff shortage. The report stated that movements of staff can only be approved by the Chief Justice.

The spokesman yesterday said the approval of the Chief Justice is sought only when it is intended to increase or decrease the established complement of a particular "judiciary team".
