Ultimatum to minister

Malcolm Mifsud (November 7) criticised my giving an ultimatum to Minister Francis Zammit Dimech to meet me on an issue which required immediate attention. I had handed in my resignation on October 18, was away for the weekend on an official trip with Fabrizio Faniello and was more than surprised that the minister commented on the Sunday when I was still away.

On my return I had no option but to call a press conference on Monday evening and that is why there was an ultimatum.

Dr Mifsud is a frequent correspondent to The Times. It seems his brief is to be the apologist for all that goes wrong in the Nationalist Party and with its ministers. So I am not surprised that he opted to put pen to paper.

Having said that, I would like to inform Dr Mifsud that it is none of his business how I conduct my affairs and that I do not share his opinion on how ministers (with all due respect) should be treated. I assure him that his diatribe fell on deaf ears.
