The Challenge Cup resumed on Sunday with two matches. Young Stars booked a semi-final slot after a 3-0 win over Qormi and Rabat started off with a 4-1 drubbing of Britannia Tours White Hart to reach the last four.

In the first match, Young Stars made the better start, threatening the Qormi goal as early as the second minute when Agius Darmanin rounded Chircop in the Qormi goal but pushed the ball wide.

On 12 minutes, the same player put his side in the lead when he was quick to take advantage from a rebound off the goalkeeper.

Agius Darmanin was causing all sorts of problems for the Qormi defence as he set up Ryan Gatt who failed to make contact with the cross. On the half hour, it was the Qormi goalkeeper who blocked another attempt by Agius Darmanin.

Almost on the stroke of half-time, Qormi created their best chance but Sandro Bartolo placed wide.

Twenty minutes into the second half, Young Stars made it 2-0 thanks to their captain Charles Micallef.

Qormi's reaction failed to materialise and Chircop came to their rescue when he saved twice from Gatt. A minute from time this young attacker was not to be denied when he bounced on another loose ball to beat Chircop.

In the other match, Rabat had little trouble overcoming White Hart.

They dominated from the start, piling one short corner after another.

By the 15th minute, they had already taken five as White Hart found it difficult to settle down. They forced their first short corner after 23 minutes after Carl Tua had taken on three defenders but Rabat swiftly took the ball up the other end and opened the score, Kevin Micallef concluding a short corner move.

On the stroke of half-time Rabat doubled their lead, Seychell finishing off another short corner move.

What little problems were being caused to the Rabat defence were coming from Tua but it was the champions who scored the next goal when Josef Antonelli embarked on a solo move and beat Galea from just inside the dee.

At this point Rabat seemed to relax as White Hart began to share the exchanges. Almost on the half hour, after their claims for a penalty went unanswered, Rabat scored their fourth when Micallef set up Antonelli for the killer touch.

Two minutes later it was Tua who was impeded in the dee for a White Hart stroke. Veteran David Agius, however, fired wide. Simon Agius then saw his hit saved by the Rabat goalkeeper and finally, two minutes from time, White Hart got their consolation goal.

Not surprisingly it was Tua who created the chance with Chris Mintoff applying the final touch.
