McDonald's Malta will again be taking part in World Children's Day on November 20 - a global event that sees the participation of over 30,000 restaurants in 121 countries.

McDonald's Malta will be contributing Lm1 from every extra value meal sold to help children in the care of the Eden Foundation as part of its Annual World Children's Day fundraiser.

All proceeds will be deposited into a special fund - McDonald's-Eden Children's Fund, set up for the first World Children's Day in 2002.

Funds collected over the last four years have been used to subsidise educational and therapeutic services for children with developmental disabilities in the care of the foundation.

The Eden Foundation is a non-governmental organisation that works in partnership with people with developmental disabilities to enable them to achieve full inclusion to the best of their abilities by gaining access to mainstream education, employment and leisure activities.

At present, 400 children and adults with various types of developmental delay problems, including Down's syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, slow learners and others, are cared for by the Eden Foundation and almost all of them are now able to attend normal schools.

World Children's Day has become the largest annual worldwide fundraising event, all the proceeds of which go to helping children's causes across the world.

Globally, it is being endorsed by a large variety of A-list celebrities, such as Destiny's Child, Venus and Serena Williams, the Duchess of York, Paul Newman, Carl Lewis and many others.

A number of prominent local personalities will again be present on the day to support the event. These include DJ Gianni, Mireille Bonello, Corkscrew, Scream Daisy, Mary Spiteri, Enzo Guzman, Carmel Busuttil, Moira Delia, Birkirkara FC, Freddie Portelli, Carlo Borg Bonaci, Fabrizio Faniello, Joseph Chetcuti and Is-Sur Gawdenz, among others.

The cast of popular kids' TV programmes will also be present.

People will have the opportunity of meeting these and other personalities, who will either be signing autographs or working behind the counter in different McDonald's restaurants.

Patrons will also be able to make their contribution to help the children of the Eden Foundation. In addition, the management and staff of each restaurant will be holding other fundraising activities on the day so as to enlarge the fund even more.
