Malta national champion Alex Borg will not figure in the final stages of the Malta Cup next year after losing his match in the first qualifying round on Monday in Wales. He was beaten by Sean Storey 5-3.

Tony Drago is likely to play his qualifying round match against either Shokat Ali or Joe Delaney at the Hilton Portomaso, venue of the Malta Cup.

The Malta Cup will be held between January 30 and February 5.
