The University Chaplaincy has expressed concern about what it said was a growing lack of tolerance towards irregular immigrants among both university students and staff.
The concern has prompted the chaplaincy to dedicate this year's first Chaplaincy In Dialogue meeting to discuss this issue with academic staff.
The meeting will be held at the Jesuit Residence - Dar Manwel Magri outside the university gates on Friday at 7.45 p.m.
The chaplaincy said that much of the discussion taking place on the island was dominated by fear, possibly fuelled by misinformation and therefore the speakers, Katrine Camilleri, assistant director of the Jesuit Refugee Service, and Ruth Farrugia, representative of the Church's Emigrants' Commission, will be shedding some light on the actual situation.
The chaplaincy added that the debate in Malta was also leading to a misinterpretation of the Christian position on this issue.
It therefore wished to promote a true Christian response by presenting the most recent statements by the Church on the matter.
