A 58-year-old man was yesterday put on probation for three years after he admitted to breaking into a car.

The man, whose name can not be published, by court order, admitted to stealing a bag containing a mobile phone, credit cards and other items from Isabel Borg's car and causing between Lm10 and Lm50 damage in Naxxar on Sunday.

Magistrate Antonio Mizzi heard that the man had an alcohol abuse problem and had paid back the victim. Police Inspectors Kevin Farrugia and Victor Aquilina prosecuted.

Lawyers Kris Busietta and Jason Azzopardi appeared for the man.
