Protest at price rise for card resellers

The Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises - GRTU yesterday requested the Malta Communications Authority and the Office for Fair Competition to call on Vodafone and Go Mobile to suspend their price increase for resellers of E Talk and Ready to Go cards.

The GRTU said that these increases were imposed on the strength of the two firms dominating the market.

"These dominant firms are imposing their will irrespective of the impact on resellers who have no option but to accept the imposition even at a price which is below the cost of the service they offer," the GRTU said.

Retailers' commission on the sale of these cards is being reduced from seven to five per cent, hence effectively re-pricing their respective products, the chamber said.
