We have just returned from a wonderful day at a small, safe beach at It-Torri l-Abjad in the limits of Mellieha.

The only thing that marred the afternoon was the constant comings and goings of four or five dogs which seem to have made the beach their own. The surroundings are full of their droppings and children who are not used to dogs feel uncomfortable with dogs sniffing at their clothing and wandering around.

This is not fair to anyone, not even to the poor animals which, I have been told, belong to the owners of 'summer' in the area.  Does this mean that their owners care for them, only in the summer, and left roaming without food until next summer comes along?

The local council should see to it that these dogs are picked up and the owners are contacted, fined and have their dogs taken from them. The dogs should be rounded up immediately and taken to a shelter until a good home is found for them.

Until then some nasty incident is waiting to happen if one or more of the dogs is angered in some way.
