A young man was yesterday charged with assaulting nurses at St Luke's Hospital's casualty department on Sunday.

Magistrate Silvio Meli heard Jonathan Calleja, 23, of St Paul's Bay, plead not guilty to assaulting the nurses, breaching the peace and uttering obscene words in public.

Mr Calleja was granted bail against a personal guarantee of Lm500.

Police Inspector Mario Bonello prosecuted.

Lawyer Joseph Giglio appeared for Mr Calleja.
