A final always takes precedence on a card at the Marsa racetrack even if it is contested by Class G and H trotters running together. This was the case yesterday with the Prix De Caen SECF championship race on 2,140 metres.

The eighth Autumn Meeting also included two SECF Prix De Cagnes Sur Mer championship semi-finals for Class E and F running together, also on the same 2,140-metre distance.

A total of eight trotters qualified for the final of the competition for Class E and F trotters as SECF championships are only open to French horses.

The rest of the races yesterday, also scratch ones, were run on the rather long 2,640-metre distance. Frencu Cassar and Noel Baldacchino were the meeting's best drivers with two wins each.

The G/H final proved to be an interesting race from start to finish. First, it was Ed Ham Cazeen which took the lead but this horse was first overtaken by Gy De Ceronne and then by eventual winner Infini Vite, driven by its owner Joseph Tabone. Eden, Gy De Ceronne and First Begonia were second, third and fourth respectively.

The first Class E/F semi-final developed into a tussle along the final metres involving no fewer than five trotters. In the end, it was Frencu Cassar's Gordon Sarthois which manage to get the better of the rest right at the post. Geronimo D'Em, Ilos Tuilerie and Horizon Du Layon entered the final in that order.

The second semi-final was won by Jump of Glory under the control of Noel Baldacchino. This trotter dashed strongly home along the final straight. Hitamos, Feodal De Clairgil and Fabrino made it to the final as well.

In yesterday's Class A1 race, Faverol looked set to finish first after jumping into the lead a lap from the finish.

However, at the very last few metres Faverol was surprised by Coffeeshop CF, driven by Charles Camilleri.

Inoir De Beauval passed the post first in Class A but was disqualified resulting in Huang Go being award first place instead. Frencu Cassar's Ideal De Suce then pipped Fier Seigneur to the post to win Class B after the latter had led for most of the distance.
