The Trémery plant in eastern France has announced the production of its one millionth 1.6-litre HDi/TCDi engine, developed during the second phase of the co-operation with Ford Motor Company.
Even as PSA Peugeot Citroën and Ford were announcing the fourth phase of their diesel engine co-operation agreement, Trémery, the world's largest diesel engine plant, was producing its one millionth 1.6-litre HDi/TCDi engine, developed during the second phase of the co-operation agreement.
Equipped with second-generation common-rail technology, the all-aluminum engine weighs just 120 kg, making it easier to fit on a wide range of vehicles. Today, it powers the Peugeot 206, 307 and 407, and the Citroën C3, C4, C5 and Xsara Picasso, as well as a number of cars produced by Ford Motor Co. brands.
The millionth engine was delivered to the Rennes plant, where it was fitted on a Peugeot 407. The 1.6-litre HDi/TDCi is manufactured in two dedicated modules at the Trémery plant, and accounts for 4,300 of the 8,800 engines produced at the plant every day.
