After "conquering" Mount Etna earlier this month, the team of volunteers who have taken on the Kilimanjaro Challenge 2 will be trekking around Gozo this weekend.
They will arrive at Mgarr this morning to start a two-day trek around the island. They will walk through Dahlet Qorrot, San Blas, Marsalforn and end the day at Wied l-Ghasri where they will make camp for the night.
Tomorrow the team will get an early start and head to Dwejra after which they will make their way through Xlendi and Ta' Cenc before they arrive, full circle, back at Mgarr.
In Malta the KC2 team will continue with their extensive training programme designed to get them fit and ready to get to the peak of Africa's Mount Kilimanjaro in December.
The climb, and the events running up to it, are aimed at raising Lm38,000 for the construction of a convent for nuns in the Ethiopian village of Bulbula. Last year the Kilimanjaro Challenge raised money to build a school in the village, run by the same nuns.
The challenge is one of the projects falling under the patronage of Reaching Out, a charitable group that raises funds for various humanitarian projects in Third World countries.
As their training continues, the KC2 team will organise several fund-raising events which the pubic is invited to join.
On Friday, a gala dinner will be held at the Coastline Hotel at 8.30 p.m. The price is Lm12.50. (For more details call 9982 0438 or 9944 2391).
On November 13, the team will organise an Adrenaline Sunday at Migja Ferha in the limits of Rabat. The public will be able to get a taste of adventure for just Lm2.50 if they book early enough. Anyone who wants to join in this event can call Greg Attard on 9945 6949.
This will be followed by a treasure hunt on November 20.
Meanwhile, the public can contribute to the cause by sending an SMS on 5061 8076 to donate Lm2, on 5061 8927 to donate Lm3, and on 5061 9203 for Lm5.
Donations can also be made at Bank of Valletta account 40014418635, HSBC account 061020731050 and at APS account 200003165100.
