With reference to the letter by Chris J. Delicata (Catechism Classes, October 13), we too would like to express our support for the catechism classes that were held at St Patrick' s church under the excellent guidance of Fr Joe Cini. It is truly shameful that the hierarchy in the Church have decided to stop these classes. This was a very good thing happening for our children and the people whose mission it is to promote catechism have done exactly the opposite.

Given the preparation that our children receive at school, there is absolutely no reason why they should be compelled to attend catechism classes more than once a week. Don't they have enough pressure with school and extracurricular activities? We will purposely avoid going into the subject of whether the classes should be compulsory or not because this is an issue in itself and definitely worth debating separately.

We will limit ourselves to the subject concerning St Patrick's in particular and we wish to appeal to the good sense of the Curia to reverse the decision and reinstate the classes. Otherwise, it would truly be a big loss for our children at the hands of the Curia's dogmatic rules.
