Two badly injured in shooting

A man, 49 and his son, 15 of Zurrieq were badly injured in a shooting following a quarrel in Zurrieq yesterday afternoon.

Sources said another man, 43, and the two injured men had an argument over the right of use of a path in the fields at about 4.30 p.m.

The argument escalated and the man is understood to have left the scene returning shortly afterwards holding a shotgun with which he allegedly fired four or five shots at very close range at the two victims.

The two men were rushed to hospital while the police started investigating the case. They arrested a man who was being interrogated in the evening.

CID and forensic police officers were on the scene to preserve evidence related to the case.

District Police Inspector Walter Spiteri and Homicide Squad Inspector Christopher Pullicino are conducting investigations.
