The National Audit Office will be hosting a workshop on the audit of public sector financial statements between today and Friday.

The aim of the workshop is to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and practical experiences of current practices and standards for auditing financial statements in order to encourage the application of better methods and procedures.

A special emphasis will be made on discussing good practices and lessons to be learnt when building up the capacity and capability for auditing public sector budget execution reports and accounts.

The workshop is being coordinated by the European Court of Auditors and Sigma - a joint initiative of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development and the European Union, principally financed by the EU.

The speakers will be from the European Court of Auditors and from the supreme audit institutions of Denmark, Slovenia, Estonia, Scotland and Malta.

Participants come from the supreme audit institutions of Albania, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, the Slovak Republic and Turkey.
