One of the latest trends for shop owners is to install full, transparent, frameless, glass doors.
While these doors may be aesthetically beautiful, they create a potential health hazard.
While my wife was leaving a clothes shop in Sliema, she crashed into one of these doors (which happened to be open when going in). She suffered a bruised nose and a swollen knee. Recently, I damaged my glasses while stepping out of a watch shop. A friend of mine was less fortunate - he broke his front teeth.
Could the Health and Safety Authority, Mepa, or any other authority for that matter, see that these potentially dangerous doors are "marked" by horizontal strips of coloured tape at eye level (as with BOV in Republic Street and Marks & Spencer at Strait Street.)
In the meantime, I plead with the shop owners to fix some sort of sticker (even with the shop's logo) at eye-level on these glass doors. They cost nothing but may save people from further injuries.
