I read with interest the letter by Joseph Bezzina (October 17) regarding the Xemxija Marina in which he writes that Minister Censu Galea has a positive attitude towards this project but unfortunately it does not seem the case for a Marsacala Marina where a breakwater is much needed.

I have nothing against what Mr Bezzina said. However, I think the answer is an obvious one. A marina is badly needed in the north of Malta. Why do boat owners living in Mellieha/St Paul's Bay area have to go to the Sliema/Msida/Valletta area to go out with their boat? Something has to be done soon. I personally agree completely with the idea of a marina in Xemxija but I know that there are many Xemxija residents who oppose the marina. But why can't I enjoy my boat all year round, since currently I have to either take the boat out of the water for the winter months, or take it to a far-away marina? And if someone thinks that the marina should not be constructed because people still swim in the inner part of Xemxija Bay, I dare them; the water is filthy!

Carry on with the good job Minister Galea. And I hope we will see the marina soon.
