The Academic Secretariat of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Complutense University of Madrid announced that at its September meeting, the Permanent Commission of the Faculty Board, following the proposal of the Dean, Professor Benito del Castillo Garcia, who is also the president of the European Association of Faculties of Pharmacy (EAFP), unanimously agreed to award the Institutional Medal to the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Malta.

The Department of Pharmacy will be conferred this honour in Madrid on December 8 at an official ceremony. The medal was awarded to the Department of Pharmacy University of Malta in recognition of its contribution to curriculum development in pharmacy where the department has succeeded to develop a curriculum with the right balance between the basic sciences and the professional practice content.

The local syllabus was recommended by the European Association of Faculties of Pharmacy as a benchmark for restructuring the pharmacy courses in Europe.

The Department of Pharmacy stated that this achievement was only possible through the contribution of all the staff in the Pharmacy Department and in all the other departments of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery as well as in other faculties whose co-operation in developing an outstanding pharmacy course curriculum was never lacking.

This is an example of success where different departments work closely together and the disadvantages of a small University are turned into unique advantages.
