I always enjoy reading Judge Giovanni Bonello's extremely interesting articles about various facets of Maltese history. His latest article on "Artists related to Malta" certainly does not disappoint.

I was greatly intrigued to read (The Sunday Times, October 16) that a general census of the male inhabitants of Valletta and Floriana was carried out in 1766 on Grand Master Pinto's orders: the Rollo Generale della Valletta.

Disappointingly, Judge Bonello's list of references at the end of his article does not include this document. As an amateur "historian", I would like to know if this document is available for public perusal at our National Library in Valletta, and if so, what the precise reference number is.

Editor's note: The omission is regretted; the Rollo's reference number in the National Library is AOM 1066.
