Hearts' biggest shareholder Vladimir Romanov said yesterday he wants to own the club and has agreed deals to buy the shares of the Bank of Scotland and Scottish Media Group. The Lithuanian bank tycoon owns 29.9 per cent of the shares but now wants at least 75 per cent and to de-list the Edinburgh club from the Stock Exchange.
The club's chairman George Foulkes urged shareholders to sell to Romanov. He said: "I think this is one of the greatest days for the club.
"Vladimir Romanov is principle shareholder and has indicated he would like to become owner of Heart of Midlothian and that's why he's making an offer of 35 pence per share.
"On behalf of the board I would urge all shareholders to accept the offer. He wants 90 per cent and I hope it would happen, ideally that would be the best situation."
