During the third quarter of this year total sales by manufacturing enterprises went down by Lm21 million or eight per cent to Lm239.9 million from Lm260.9 million for the July-September quarter in 2004, the National Statistics Office said.
Employment in the sampled enterprises declined by 332 employees to 19,566 when compared to 19,898 for the same period the year before.
Overall investment in the manufacturing industry decreased by Lm1.3 million to Lm9.1 million compared to Lm10.4 million for the same period of last year.
Investment during the first nine months of 2005 added up to Lm33 million, a fall of Lm7.8 million over the same period in 2004.
During the first nine months, the net total manufacturing sales amounted to Lm700.9 million, a decline of Lm65.9 million, when compared to Lm766.8 million for the same period in 2004.
