I was amused to read a short report Shun Halloween (October 8) in which the Church warns its followers not to celebrate Halloween due to its pagan origins.
That's rather rich considering that almost every Christian feast, including Christmas and Easter, are derived from pagan celebrations. That's where we get the Easter egg and Christmas tree and most other "Christian" traditions. It's not a coincidence that the feasts of all saints and of the dead fall on the very same days in which pagans used to commemorate the same subject.
Not to mention our village feasts... perhaps the less said about those the better. Of course, all this may be interesting but is largely irrelevant today.
Most people celebrate Halloween for fun, just like another carnival. In its original form, Halloween might have been something frightening, when people would have stayed at home behind closed doors, not partying in fancy dress. The ghostbusters team needs to relax a little.
