Irregular immigrants

On October 2, during the 8 p.m. TVM news bulletin it was reported that there was trouble among irregular immigrants at Lyster Barracks. As background to this report, TVM chose to transmit part of the film relating to the troubles of some time ago involving irregular immigrants and the armed forces albeit with a sub-title saying that the film related to a separate situation.

Considering the current tense state of affairs in the country relating to the subject of irregular immigration and taking into account that the troubles shown in this film are currently the subject of an inquiry by Judge Franco Depasquale, it was a highly irresponsible choice of film.

By all means, news bulletins are there to inform. I would have no problem had a film of the actual situation been transmitted.

However, putting a very controversial situation back into the spotlight while referring to a totally separate event was wrong and much greater sensitivity is called for.
