As part of an ongoing campaign to promote safe motorcycle driving, Gasan Enterprises Ltd, local distributors for Yamaha motorcycles, in conjunction with the Yamaha Riding Academy of Japan, organised a Yamaha Day at the Luxol Car Park in Pembroke last Sunday.

The objective of the day was to help Yamaha riders acquire a better understanding of their bikes and understand the skills necessary to ride and handle the bike safely.

Gasan Enterprises invited over Hidenobu Toh, an experienced Yamaha riding instructor, to come to Malta from Japan purposely for the event. Mr Toh was accompanied by Kazuomi Hanabusa, area manager for Yamaha.

Mr Toh presented participants with a comprehensive overview of the basic requirements and techniques needed to maintain the bike in optimum working condition. This was followed by a practical session on the purposely set track and covered areas such as correct braking, cornering, manoeuvring, and handling the bike in difficult situations.

"Riding your Yamaha is an exhilarating experience but above all riders need to ensure that they will be safe and know how to handle road situations as they arise," commented David Gasan, managing director of Gasan Enterprises, who was present throughout the event.

"The academy is not about speed but safety, confidence and enjoyment," he added.

Participants were thrilled to be able to demonstrate their skills and discuss riding techniques with an experienced rider like Mr Toh. "Maltese Yamaha riders are passionate about their bikes," Mr Toh said. "I am very pleased with the riding skills I have seen today. I am also impressed with the pride these owners show in their bikes."

At the end of the sessions, Mr Toh presented each participant with a Yamaha Riding Academy certificate, as well as a gift and handy booklet on safe riding skills.
