ECDL Malta has been named global winner of the New Licensee Award at the first ECDL Foundation Licensee Awards in Zurich last Thursday.

The awards were established to reward excellence and leadership among the ECDL and ICDL licensees that deliver the ECDL-F range of computer skills certifications at a national level in 140 countries.

The ECDL Foundation Licensee Awards recognise the ECDL-F licensees who demonstrate best practice and innovation in the implementation of the ECDL-F programmes in the areas of New Product Adoption, Social Contribution, Marketing/PR practice and significant ECDL/ICDL Initiatives as well as Best New Licensee.

The ECDL Foundation is the leading provider of end-user computer skills certifications worldwide and is the global governing body and licensing authority of the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL), the internationally recognised standard for end-user computer skills.

In addition to the ECDL, the ECDL-F has a rapidly expanding product range which includes certifications catering for every level of computer use experience, from complete beginners to expert end-users and users with specialised interests.

All ECDL and ICDL licensees were invited to submit projects for assessment in these awards by an independent panel of international e-society experts, which included Don E. Detmer, MD, MA, president and CEO of the American Medical Informatics Association; Professor Jane Grimson, vice provost, Trinity College and Professor of Computer Science; Astrid Dufborg, Ambassador (ICT advisor), Permanent Mission of Sweden, Geneva; and Kurt Gladh, former chairman and director of ECDL-F board and ex-CEO ECDL Sweden.

The best new licensee award rewards best practice within a licensee organisation in existence for less than two years. This award was presented to ECDL Malta in recognition of the high performance of the ECDL programme in Malta since the Computer Society of Malta obtained the ECDL licence.

ECDL Malta has achieved the highest annual sales of ECDL as a percentage of population in 2004 and 2005, and also the highest total sales of the equal skills programme as a percentage of population.
