Valleys cleaned 'after 30 years'

Government workers have cleaned up more than seven kilometres of valleys this year, Resources and Infrastructure Minister Ninu Zammit said on Tuesday.

He said most of the areas had not been cleaned for more than 30 years.

Mr Zammit said it had been a wise step of his ministry to set up a section to carry out cleaning and rehabilitation works on valleys and water courses.

Apart from being an important part of the plan to prevent flooding, the cleaning of valleys also helped decrease the loss of soil, create more accessibility for farmers and create passages for the public.
