There are 1,226 migrants in detention centres run by the Detention Service, the Prime Minister told Gavin Gulia (MLP) in reply to a parliamentary question yesterday.

Dr Gonzi said that 631 were being accommodated at Safi Barracks, including 142 in B Block Compound, 244 in MT Compound (tents) and 245 in Warehouse 1.

The remaining 595 asylum seekers were being held at Lyster Barracks. They included 409 accommodated at Hermes Block Compound and 186 in tents in a football ground.
