Pauleta eyes Eusebio record in Latvia match

Pauleta hopes to beat Eusebio's record as Portugal's top scorer when his team host Latvia in their final qualifier today, having already secured their place at next year's World Cup.

Portugal booked their place in Germany after beating Liechtenstein 2-1 on Saturday, when striker Pauleta scored his 40th goal for the team.

"There is still one goal missing," said the 32-year-old.

Eusebio scored 41 goals in 64 games for Portugal, while Pauleta has made 76 appearances.

Portugal's celebrations were clouded by reports that Gilberto Madail, president of the Portuguese FA, said coach Luiz Felipe Scolari would leave after the finals in Germany.

Scolari took over as coach after leading Brazil to their fifth World Cup victory in South Korea and Japan in 2002 and took Portugal to the final of Euro 2004 in Lisbon, where they were beaten by Greece.

After Saturday's win, Scolari promised Portugal would reach the last eight in Germany.
