A man injured in an industrial accident was awarded close to Lm5,000 damages by Mr Justice Joseph Azzopardi, sitting in the First Hall of the Civil Court.

Anthony Frendo and his wife Michelle filed their writ for damages against Italmal Machinery Ltd.

The couple claimed that on February 26, 2002, Mr Frendo had been injured while laying tarmac on behalf of the company in Naxxar. They asked the court to condemn the company to make good the damages sustained.

Mr Justice Azzopardi noted that the company had not trained all its employees who made use of the machinery that had caused the accident.

The company had not provided adequate safety equipment either, the judge ruled.

The court ordered the company to pay the Frendos damages to the tune of Lm4,946.
